Tooth extractions are most commonly performed when a tooth is severely decayed or damaged. Your Boulder dentist will suggest this procedure when the tooth has to much damage and it is not possible to restore the tooth. Dentists also extract teeth per the request of an orthodontist when overcrowding exists.

Other causes that justify tooth extraction include severe infection. Sometimes antibiotics do not cure the infection and an extraction is needed to prevent the spread of infection. Another cause for extraction is periodontal gum disease. This is an infection of the tissues and bones that support the teeth. If periodontal gum disease occurs it may cause loosening of the tooth or teeth, and may be necessary to extract the tooth or teeth that have been affected.
